Maina Wachira

Ph.D. Candidate (he/him/his), Urban and Regional Planning

Maina Wachira is a first year PhD student in Urban and Regional Planning. He has a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the University of Chicago and a master’s in Applied Quantitative Methods from Northeastern University.

He has emerging interests in a number of directions that bring together a range of theoretical and empirical strands: whether models that simulate land use and development patterns are fit for studying African cities; whether network science can shed light on how planning interventions affect social and economic networks; and finally whether computational social science can help us explore ideas of Africa’s urban future in the plans and reports of national governments and international organizations.
