Please join us on March 20, 2026 for architecture <> record, a full-day PhD-led symposium at Taubman College for Architecture Planning co-sponsored by the Department of Anthropology, African Studies Center, Center for South Asian Studies (CSAS), Planning and Architecture Research Group, and The Africa Alliance at Taubman College. The symposium explores how records and architecture are reciprocally framed, interrogating how spatial research claims, assembles, and curates evidence.

Three keynote speakers will join us:

Dr. Caitlin Blanchfield (Cornell University) examines how pōhaku, or stones, are represented across evidentiary and jurisdictional regimes at the Mauna Kea Observatories on the island of Hawai‘i.

Dr. Menna Agha (Carleton University) traces how Nubian womanhood itself becomes a non-custodial archival method after a century of displacement.

Dr. Anooradha Iyer Siddiqi (Barnard College) shares her ongoing research on Sri Lankan architect Minnette De Silva, asking how we care for our postcolonial inheritance, marking works of historiography and works of handicraft as records of intergenerational knowledge.

PhD lightning talks will also be featured throughout the day.

Coffee and refreshments will be provided.
