Timothy  Philip  Berke

Urban and Regional Planning




Tim is a Ph.D. candidate in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Michigan, specializing in post-conflict development, the built environment, public health, and collaborative planning. His dissertation explores livelihood opportunities and infrastructure needs for forcibly displaced persons in urban areas of South Sudan and Uganda. 

With over 12 years of experience in hazard mitigation, development programming, and public health, Tim has spent over eight years working in South Sudan. He has been a research consultant for the International Organization for Migration and Country Director for an international NGO, overseeing protection, public health, and livelihood programs. Tim has also conducted program evaluations for various INGOs and UN agencies, including Mercy Corps, ICRC, WFP, UNICEF, and the World Bank. From 2013 to 2016, he served as an advisor to the South Sudan Committee for National Healing, Peace, and Reconciliation.
